Good Morning Mr Anxiety

Man looking at the window

“Good Morning Mr Anxiety”

– A Poem by Rob, General Anxiety Disorder Sufferer

Urrrrrrgh! Ohhhh… Ohhh… Oh! Pffffff… huurrrgh… huurg… hurh

There it is then… Oh no!!

The hellish darkness I feel when I awake

The dark, thick black fog

The weight of a hundred elephants on my head

Shaking

The feeling of being alive but not as it used to be once upon a time when I felt normal.

You know, don’t you? You know damn well that I have a lot on today, don’t you?

I know you know… because I’m lying here dripping

You’ve been working away at my subconscious, haven’t you? Even while I sleep

Good morning My Anxiety… damn you!

Lie here for just a while

Oh yes, lie on my right with my hand on my face… that’s my little comfort position

Must get up soon… oh no!

Ok, up we get, straight to the loo for the first anxiety vomit of the day.

There, that’s better

Ok breakfast… can only manage yogurt for now

Cuppa, sit on sofa wrapped in comfort blanket

Where’s Rosie the cat? Come and sit on my lap Rosie? Stroke, Stroke… there, nice.

Sit back, breathe, stare out of the window at the roof tops – my comfort view

Have a little time, maybe ten minutes

Just breathe Robert

Close my eyes and count my breaths

Slowly, gently, peacefully

There…
